The simple fact is that the majority of our thoughts and actions are on autopilot. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. Our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions carry us through our lives so we don’t have to stop and think about it every time we wipe our ass or start a car.
The problem is when we’re on autopilot for so long that we forget we’re on autopilot. Because when we’re not even aware of our own habits, routines, impulses, and reactions, then we no longer control them they control us.
What a relief to know that when we’re not even aware of our own habits, routines, impulses, and reactions, then we no longer control them. A person with self-awareness is able to exercise a little meta-cognition and say, “Hmm… every time my sister calls me and asks for money, I end up drinking a lot of vodkas.
It’s pretty clear that the person who’s been on autopilot for so long, in other words, Colt Vahn, has not only forgotten he’s on autopilot, he’s forgotten that he’s in a time loop. He’s in a time loop. The first step in the game is to get all of the Visionaries to the party island, kill them, and then return the island to normal.
Colt has a habit of getting himself killed by his friends. It’s also been implied that he has a lot of self-awareness, or at the very least, self-knowledge. He might be a little too arrogant and think he’s a total badass for his own good, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t understand that he’s being tracked and monitored by the Visionaries.
The game starts off with Colt as a party-loving, well-adjusted young man, completely oblivious to the events that are happening around him. Then the game kicks in and he starts to get really violent, like the kind of person he used to be.
That he has a lot of self-awareness may be true, but that doesnt mean he doesnt understand that he is being tracked and monitored by the Visionaries. I think the title might go too far. Because it is so obvious that we are being monitored, it would be hard to believe that we are not aware of that. But if that is the case, then the actual content of that game is just as insane as the title. If you really think about it, Deathloop could be the best game you’ve played since… well, since the ending.
We can’t possibly expect you to agree with us without knowing the content of this game. All we can say is that it’s about the story of a man who wakes up in a place with no memories of why he’s on a beach, and starts to get violent. Deathloop is that kind of game.
In fact, that kind of game is exactly what is about Deathloop’s story. After a series of events that could only be described as surreal, the man wakes up on a beach with no memories of what he’s doing or who he is. This is the sort of thing that will make you scream for your mother.
