Many times in life there is so much that we take for granted, and the things we do that we think are basic, simple, and common are sometimes taken for granted too. Rape is one of those things that can be taken for granted, but not always. This summer, I am going to tackle rape with this video to really put it into the context of society.
Rape is a serious issue in the world. In the US alone, an estimated 1.3 million women and men have been victims of rape between the ages of 15 and 44. That’s about four out of every ten women and five out of every ten men in the US. For those of you who don’t know, women can become pregnant, and they have to carry the resulting babies to term. These babies are sometimes considered a man’s property.
Most people are not aware of this, but rape in the US is an epidemic. A recent study in the US found that about 14,000 women become pregnant by rape a year, and more than half of these women give birth to newborns who were not fully-developed at birth.
That might not be enough to make you want to take a look at the video, but there is a lot of information on it that is worth digesting just in case. One of the most important things is that it shows the difference between the actual rape and what people are often taught to believe. The video shows an actual rape that happens in the movie, and the differences between that and the real thing.
