The main reason behind the police’s actions seems to be the fact that we have a long history of using the police to keep the island in check. A lot of innocent people are locked up for years, we have an open house, and there are thousands of police officers. The officers are always using the police to keep the island safe, so the police don’t always go to the trouble of getting them to do that.
I’m not saying they should not use the police to keep the island in check. They should be the police and police departments. That’s a bit of a strawman.
